Social Work and secondary traumatic stress and vicarious trauma

Madeline Mitchell has a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degree in Psychology from Shippensburg University. She is currently in her Specialization Year as a Master of Social Work (MSW) student at Millersville University, where she is a School of Social Work Advisory Board Member. Madeline worked as an Intake Caseworker at Franklin County Children and Youth Services where she investigated allegations of child physical and sexual abuse. Madeline’s career extended to roles within Child Advocacy Centers in Bucks, Montgomery, Berks and Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Madeline worked as a Family Advocate and Forensic Interviewer where she conducted trauma-informed interviews of children and vulnerable adults who were alleged victims and/or witnesses to violent crimes following the National Child Advocacy Center’s (NCAC) protocol. In these roles Madeline mentored, trained and assisted in skill development of other Forensic Interviewers. Madeline’s years working with victims of violent crimes lead to an interest in the long term effects of exposure to trauma and how organizations can mitigate these risks. Madeline is currently n intern at the Coatesville Veteran Affairs Medical Center in the Workplace Violence Prevention Program. Madeline is interested in Macro social work and leadership in social service organizations.
